About Me

Recently named One of

‘30 Most Inspiring Women to Look Out for in 2022’ and "2023' by Entrepreneurs Herald Magazine

My name is Joanne Carey. I have been in the dance industry more than 30 years.

I have served on many sides of the profession:

dancer, performer, artist, artistic director, program director, choreographer, visionary, writer, creative.

In September of 2021, I published my first book, ‘The Other End of the Barrel’ which rose to # 2 in Hot New Releases on Amazon in its category. I have been nominated for Readers Choice Award in Self Help with TCK Publishing and in March of 2022 Entrepreneurs Herald Magazine named me one of the

Top 30 Inspiring Women to Look Out For in 2022 and then again in 2023.

I began my career as a modern dancer and dance educator. I was a studio owner for 23 years working with and collaborating with amazing and talented artists from costume designers, lighting designers, backstage crew, production crews, behind the scenes and front of the house! All the people whose talent and energy bring this art form to the audience so stories can be told.

For 5 years I served as a board member for Dance New Jersey giving a voice and representation to the neighborhood community dance studio.

My motto to “ Dance with all your Heart!” created an atmosphere of acceptance, warmth , family values, a community inside a community and a place where ALL are welcome.

In addition, I got my ABT/NTC certification in 2015. Doing so reaffirmed my love of ballet, my love of dance and my passion for the art form while fanning the flames of my belief that dance changes lives and is needed to keep telling our stories.

“Dance Talk” ® with Joanne Carey was born in December 2021 in response to the Pandemic to provide the community behind the scene views into our beautiful & exquisite art form and to give dancers, artists, dance educators, artistic directors and creatives a place to tell their story.

I am both humbled and thrilled by the responses both from my guests and listeners. I have one listener who shared that dance is not in her wheelhouse but just from tuning in each week, “Dance Talk” has opened up a whole new world to her, one where she is now hooked on live performance and learning more about dance!

Dance touches lives on so many levels, in so many ways and creates some of the best story tellers alive. Dancers live history, tell history and preserve history all the while pushing the boundaries of motion and emotion to create the sublime, the beautiful and the reflection of the soul.

So, let’s tell some stories!
